A classic Mercedes-Benz W196race car driven by Formula 1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio sold for 19.6 million pounds ($29.6 million) at auction in England on Friday, setting a record for the most expensive car ever sold at auction.



The 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 single-seater was driven by the five-time world champion racer when he clinched his second title in 1954. The Argentine drove the car to victories in the 1954 German and Swiss Grand Prix races.



Robert Brooks, chairman of Bonhams auctioneers, which handled the deal, called the car the most important historic Grand Prix racing car ever offered for sale.

The auction house said the steel-colored car is in a "remarkably unspoiled" condition and that its parts are believed to be complete and workable after proper preparation.

It was sold to a private buyer over the telephone at a classic cars auction in southern England's Goodwood. The price included the buyer's premium.

A 1965 Ferrari 330GT, first owned by John Lennon, fetched 359,900 pounds ($543,887) at the same auction.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

This may not be a Black Series... but this Black Mercedes is  more expensive that SLS AMG

The Looks

Looking at the AMG car there aren't much words to say, the SL65 is simply stunning. The rear of the car with the led lights and the double exhaust pipes  is stealing the show.  I never really liked the front of the present SL-Class generation (R231). So I would love to see the car with the R230 front and this great piece of.. rear.

Inside the thing are typical for Mercedes-Benz (especially that for Merc that costs over $200.000). The quality of materials and assembly is above any questions and there are some amazing details, like the transmission shifter

The Performance

As mentioned above SL65 is more expensive that the SLS and besides it's more expensive,  has more horsepower as well.  But less put first things first. So, this is the 2013 SL65 AMG. It has a 6.0lt V12 engine, that helped by two turbochargers,  produces 621 bhp @ 4.800rpm  and 1.000 Nm of torque. So, the numbers are extreme. And the question is if this car needs such "numbers". Mercedes says that, yes it does, because there are some customers, as they say, that want a car from the higher shelf that simply no one else can afford.  So, when Mercedes decides to make a car expensive they just put a base-price over $214.000, $8.000 more than the SLS AMG.  Which is weird because the SLS should be the car that everyone would thing that is extraordinary.

Besides the price policy the SL65 is half second slower  than the SL63 at  50 to 70mph acceleration and it is not the best Mercedes Benz ever built. And definitely is not better (not even better looking) that the 2007 SL65 Black Series.

But the truth is that this one is not trying to be the best. This car is built to look great, to impress and when asked to run fast as hell in a straight way. And at this tasks it has really only few competitors, and no one of them  can drop it's roof on a sunny day...

AMG 300E 6.0... The "Hammer" Sideways In The Rain!

The Hammer was a selectively equipped 300E impeccably tuned by AMG to include the large displacent V8 from the 560 SEC and all associated drivetrain and suspension upgrades. In August of 1987, Road & Track said it was a ''4-door that runs like a Ferrari Testarossa''.

In the 1980s, no other practical four-passenger provided Hammer's performance. It reached 0 to 60 in 5.0 seconds; the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.

Each hammer began with a U.S. specification Mercedes 300E, stripped of all powertrain and running gear. The six-cylinder engine gave way a V8 which was originally intended for the larger 560. Then an AMG-designed DOHC setup with four vales per cylinder was installed. Optionally, AMG could bore the engine out from 5.6 to 6.0 litres to get 375 bhp and 407 ft lbs of torque.

Additionally, AMG revalved the four-speed automatic from the large Mercedes S-Class, replaced the rear subframe with a beefier one and fit the biggest M-B differential, A Gleason-Torsen (Torque Sensing) unit.

A special AMG suspension was installed with shorter springs, firmer shock absorbers, 8.0-by-17-inch alloy wheels, and Pirelli P700 tires: 215/45VR-17 front, 235/45VR-17 rear.

To reduce frontal area and improve wind resistance to 0.25 Cd a front air dam and side skirts, and a ducktail blended into the deck were included.

It's unknown just how many hammers were as each was custom ordered. This meant that the only common aspect of each car was the M117 V8, sometime with our without the DOHC 4-Valve cylinder heads.

Specification listed is for the largrest 6.0 liter Hammer which would be much faster than the 5.6 car which reached 186 mph during Road & Tracks record-breaking test.

50th Anniversary of the Mercedes Pagoda SL

Penned by designer Paul Bracq, the W113 SL had big shoes to fill: it had the incredible task of succeeding the original and instantly iconic 300 SL Gullwing. But you can't copy a legend, so Bracq designed one of his own. Straight lines replaced curves and a low-slung roof was replaced by a high top design that gave the car its nickname: the Pagoda.

Στην έκθεση αυτοκινήτου της Νέας Υόρκης  παρουσίασε η Mercedes - Benz την κορυφαία έκδοση της CLA,  με απόδοση  360 ίππων.

Η Mercedes εισάγει την  CLA 45 AMG στη Νέα Υόρκη, το πιο ισχυρό τετρακύλινδρο σε σειρά κινητήρα στον κόσμο. Ήδη, οι πρώτες φωτογραφίες διέρρευσαν.



Mercedes παρουσίασε στη Έκθεση  αυτοκινήτου της Νέας Υόρκης  2013, ένα νέο μέλος της οικογένειας AMG:

Το CLA 45 AMG,  το πιο ισχυρό κινητήρα παραγωγής τεσσάρων κυλίνδρων στον κόσμο. Το δίλιτρο turbo βγάζει έναν επιβλητικό  ήχο και αποδίδει  360hp. H μέγιστη ροπή των 450 Nm μεταφέρεται μέσω ενός  κιβωτίου ταχυτήτων διπλού συμπλέκτη AMG Shift  και στους τέσσερις τροχούς.  Οι τροχοί επενδύονται  με ζάντες 18-ιντσών και ελαστικά μεγέθους 235/40.  Η ειδική ισχύς των 181 ίππων/λίτρο είναι  τιμή απλησίαστει για έναν τετρακύλινδρο . Αντίστοιχη  της  απόδοσης του δίλιτρου μοτέρ, είναι και η  οδηγική αίσθηση που αφήνει το αυτοκίνητο. Το τετράθυρο κουπέ της Mercedes  επιταχύνει από στάση στα 100 km / h σε 4,6 δευτερόλεπτα, με την τελική ταχύτητα  που έρχεται πιο εύκολα από ότι νομίζεις, να περιορίζεται ηλεκτρονικά στα 250 χλμ/ώρα. Παράλληλα με τις κορυφαίες τιμές απόδοσης, η Mercedes υπόσχεται για   το CLA45 AMG  εξαιρετικά χαμηλή  κατανάλωση  με  μόλις 6,9 λίτρα καυσίμου ανά 100 χιλιόμετρα για τον μικτό κύκλο, επίσης, το μηχανικό σύνολο πλήρη της προδιαγραφές  του πρότυπου  Euro-6.

Ένας προφυλακτήρας με διαχύτη κα ι δύο διπλές χρωμιωμένες απολήξεις της εξάτμισής  κοσμεί το πίσω μέρος.



Η νέα CLA45 AMG  διαθέτει  τρεις επιλογές ρύθμισης των  οδικών της χαρακτηριστικών.  Στην ρύθμιση  "Μ" (βραχυπρόθεσμο πρόγραμμα για  πλήρη δυναμική οδήγηση) και η "S" είναι οι σπορ  επιλογές, η δε  "C" (Controlled Efficiency) προδιαθέτει για πιο ήρεμη οδήγηση με  απαλότητα στις αλλαγές από την  μετάδοση και τον κινητήρα, προσαρμοσμένη την ανάρτηση στην άνεση και την μείωση της κατανάλωσης κατά την οδήγηση με το start-stop να  ενεργοποιείται. Χρησιμοποιώντας τριών σταδίων ESP, ο οδηγός μπορεί να μετατρέπει των χαρακτήρα και τα δυναμικά χαρακτηριστικά  της CLA 45 AMG  με το πάτημα ενός κουμπιού.

Η εσωτερική εικόνα της CLA45AMG, ξεχωρίζει από της απλές  εκδόσης, χάρη στα σπορ bucket καθίσματα με το σφιχτό "κούμπωμα" του σώματος και τις  κόκκινες ζώνες, προκειμένου να μένεις πάντα στην θέση σου στις στροφές . Φυσικά, από το εσωτερικό του αυτοκινήτου δεν λείπουν τα  διακριτικά της AMG.  Το εσωτερικό συμπληρώνεται με  εφαρμογές σε στυλ  άνθρακα και το πολυλειτουργικό σπορ τιμόνι με χειριστήρια αλλαγής ταχυτήτων και τον πίνακα οργάνων AMG.  Εξωτερικά νέος είναι τόσο, ο πίσω προφυλακτήρας  με  διαχύτη και  τις 2 διπλές απολήξεις της εξάτμισης, όσο   και  ο εμπρός προφυλακτήρα. Την εικόνα εξωτερικά ολοκληρώνουν οι μεγαλύτερες πλαϊνές ποδιές καθώς και τα διακριτικά γράμματα AMG περιμετρικά του αμαξώματος. Τα διακριτικά πίσω φώτα σε τεχνολογία LED είναι επίσης στον στάνταρ εξοπλισμό, όπως οι  προβολείς xenon.   Η λίστα με τις επιλογές είναι ατελείωτη και δίνει την δυνατότητα να ξοδέψεις, σχεδόν όσο είναι  το κόστος του αυτοκινήτου σε αξεσουάρ.  Όποιος  τελικά αποφασίσει να προχωρήσει  στην αγορά μιας Mercedes CLA45 AMG , στην "βασική" έκδοση... θα πρέπει να είναι έτοιμος να καταθέσει τουλάχιστον € 56.079, τιμή του μοντέλου στην Γερμανία...

Είναι  η νέα καυτή έκδοση της  Mercedes-Benz για την A-Class.

Η Mercedes έκανε τις επίσημες ανακοινώσεις για την κορυφαία έκδοση της A-Class. Η πρεμιέρα του 5θυρου καυτού γερμανικού hatch θα γίνει στις 5 Μαρτίου στη Γενεύη και οι πωλήσεις αναμένεται να αρχίσουν μέσα στο καλοκαίρι. Κάτω από το καπό βρίσκεται ο νέος 4κύλινδρος κινητήρας των 2 lt, ο οποίος αναβαθμίστηκε από την AMG ώστε να αποδίδει 360 PS και 45,9 kgm ροπής από τις 2.250 έως τις 5.000 rpm. Η κίνηση περνά μόνιμα σε όλους τους τροχούς μέσω του 7τάχυτου AMG SPEEDSHIFT με διπλό συμπλέκτη. Τα πρώτα 100 km/h έρχονται σε 4,6 sec, ενώ η τελική ταχύτητα περιορίζεται ηλεκτρονικά στα 250 km/h. Το μικρότερο μοντέλο που φέρει το σήμα της AMG εξοπλίζεται επίσης με ESP τριών σταδίων (με λειτουργία SPORT Handling), με sport ανάρτηση, χαμηλωμένη κατά 25 mm, και ηλεκτρομηχανικό σύστημα διεύθυνσης. Η μέση κατανάλωση είναι εντυπωσιακή για ένα αυτοκίνητο του χαρακτήρα της Α45 AMG, καθώς περιορίζεται στα 6,9 lt/100 km, ενώ οι εκπομπές ρύπων στα 161 g/km αντίστοιχα.
